We Welcome Back Guest Faculty
PSYCHODRAMATIST MARY JO AMATRUDA
Who Joins SAPHIRA LINDEN, OMEGA’S DIRECTOR

DISCOVER THE PRELUDE TO YOUR LIFE ~ ~
. . . WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE CHAPTER ONE.

Pioneering new work in recreating prenatal experiences, our earliest learning, shows how the fetus is affected by circumstances and emotional states in the womb, which can strongly influence the rest of our lives. We are faced again and again with our ‘dysfunctional’ life pattern, our emotional Sisyphean rock, such as low-grade anxiety, depression that seems to come from nowhere, inability to be assertive etc. No matter what we do, as in the Sisyphus myth, the rock just can’t stay up on the hill. We struggle with how to stop pushing the rock, how to do it differently this time. Yet, we cannot seem to change it, no matter what we try.

In this professional training workshop, a womb re-creation experience allows people to get to the root of the now called trauma. We will use this experiential piece to discuss the use of psychodrama and drama therapy to explore these issues, uncovering the prenatal origins and ways to begin working with them for ourselves and our clients.

Schedule:
Thurs: 1/29/09, 8 pm - 10 pm,
Fri-Sat: 1/30-31, 10 am - 9 pm,
Sun: 2/1, 10 am – 2 pm

(Option of continuing on Sunday & Monday for extended work in Psychodrama with Saphira for more credit hours)

Ethics, Values & Standards in Building a Drama Therapy Career
January 23-26, February 20-22, 2009, 3 credits
Omega Theater, Jamaica Plain in Boston, MA

With Jami Osborne, MA, CAGS, RDT

To insure proficiency and understanding in ethical standards in general and in particular the NADT Code of Ethical Principles.

“Ethical practices in drama therapy are concerned with resolving issues related to practices and responsibilities in treatment, supervision and research. Such standards are especially difficult to apply in new fields in the helping professions, where there may not be public awareness of responsible professional behavior and practices.” (NADT)

We will study an overview of ethics; look at different professional therapy ethical codes, with particular focus on the NADT Code of Ethics. We will explore hard ethical issues, doing role plays of ethical dilemmas. We will also work with case studies from Ethics and Issues in the Helping Professions and some of the guidelines in Ethics Of Caring. We will work with drama therapy modalities throughout our training workshop. Ethical consideration will be integrated and addressed throughout section topics.

It is expected through lecture, exploration, storytelling and experiential learning that the alternate route students will acquire an understanding of how to create a drama therapy career. We will explore drama therapy opportunities in private practice for individuals and groups, in consultant positions, in agencies, institutions and other organizations, and in community projects, that bring several groups together for an event, festival or program. The ethical practice of drama therapy practice will be placed in perspective and/or relation to the cultural and social work place/institutions.

Tuition: $1250
Location: Jamaica Plain (Boston)
